# Web Project Brief Template

A one-page brief you can copy, fill in, and send to every agency on your shortlist.
Sending the *same* brief to each makes their quotes comparable — and forces the
important decisions to be yours, not a salesperson's. Delete the prompts in
brackets as you go.

> Tip: keep it to a page or two. Clarity beats length. The sections that most
> change your price are **Scope (must-have vs nice-to-have)** and **Integrations**.

---

## 1. Company & context
- **Company:** [name, what you do, roughly how big]
- **Who is sending this brief:** [name, role, and who makes the final decision]
- **Current site (if any):** [URL, platform/CMS, what works, what doesn't]

## 2. The goal (the most important box)
- **The business problem:** [not "a new website" — the outcome you need. e.g. "we lose most mobile trial sign-ups and need a site that converts them"]
- **The single most important action** you want a visitor to take: [book a demo / buy / enquire / subscribe]

## 3. Audience
- **Primary audience:** [who they are, what they care about]
- **Devices / context:** [mostly mobile? desktop-heavy B2B? both?]

## 4. Scope
- **Must-have (launch blockers):** [pages, features, flows you cannot launch without]
- **Nice-to-have (phase 2):** [things that can wait]
- **Explicitly out of scope:** [what you do NOT want quoted, to avoid padding]

## 5. Content & CMS
- **Who will edit the site after launch, and how often:** [a non-technical marketer weekly? developers only?]
- **Content status:** [ready / needs migration / needs writing]
- **Approx. number of pages / templates:** [rough count]

## 6. Technical constraints & integrations
- **Must integrate with:** [CRM, payment, email, analytics, booking, ERP, etc.]
- **Existing stack / hosting to keep (if any):** [or "open to recommendations"]
- **Compliance needs:** [HIPAA / PCI / GDPR / accessibility (WCAG) — anything regulated]

## 7. Design
- **References you like** (and why): [2–3 sites + one line each]
- **Brand assets available:** [logo, guidelines, colours, fonts — or "need help"]

## 8. Success metrics
- **How we'll judge this worked:** [e.g. conversion rate, load time, qualified enquiries, organic traffic]

## 9. Timeline
- **Ideal launch date / any hard deadline:** [date + why, if there is one]

## 10. Budget
- **Range you're working within:** [give a real range — it gets you a proposal aimed at the right tier, not a lowball for the wrong one]

## 11. Decision process
- **How you'll choose:** [shortlist size, what matters most, when you'll decide]
- **Point of contact for questions:** [name, email]
